Text of report by Somali newspaper 'Ayaamaha' on 27th January

A group of gunmen shot and killed a journalist, Ahmad Kafi Muhammad Awaleh, and two other young men he was walking with in Bakaaraha market [Mogadishu] yesterday.

The journalist was a technician at studio one of the Voice of the Somali People radio [which supports Husayn Muhammad Aydid based in Mogadishu]. He also worked for `Ayaamaha' newspaper as a reporter. The motive for the killing of the journalist and his companions has not been established yet.

`Ayaamaha' editors Abdullahi Black, Muhammad Haji (English) and Muhammad Umar Bakay would like to send their condolences to the family of the departed journalist.
